Student Tracking Study Participant Profiles
Besides putting data from the Aimhigher Southwest Tracking Study on this website we thought it would be nice to provide profiles of some of the participants who have had Aimhigher interventions and have kindly agreed to be "tracked". These profiles were written by the participant's themselves in their own words. Many thanks to Laura for contributing this profile
Laura from Bristol
Hi, My name is Laura. I live in Bristol and I went to Hartcliffe school. I achieved really good results and I really enjoyed my time at school. I live with my mum, dad and two sisters. My eldest sister is 18 and works full time as a dental nurse. She wasn't keen on going to university as she didn't really enjoy her time at college. She is doing very well in her new job though, I think the job environment suits her better than a classroom. My youngest sister is just going into year 8. Neither of my parents went to university, so I would be the first in my family if I go.
At the moment I am studying three AS levels in psychology, geography and history. I chose to take these as I think they are the most interesting topics available, and I liked them very much at school. I've only been at college a few weeks but I've already fallen in love with the atmosphere and the things it entails. It is way better than school lol. I'm also currently looking for a job, and I'm just waiting to hear back from a few interviews, so hopefully I will be working soon.
I've always wanted to go to university because I like the idea better than going into full time work straight after school. I want to get the best education possible, although at the moment I have no idea want I'm going to study. I'm kind of leaning towards the child psychology path, and also midwifery (but this may not be possible yet as I did not take biology as an A Level). I think I'm much better suited to academic work, than being thrown into a job where you have to learn it all by practical work. I think university is a great experience for young people, and I hope I get the chance to go one day.
That's about all from me now, I will keep you updated on how I'm getting on, and any career inspirations I get (probably go through hundreds lol). So bye bye for now, thanx for reading my proflie.
Laura
