Tim, Foundation Degree Photography and Electronic Imaging

Before returning to education, Tim was running his own website design
and copywriting business but it wasn’t really his cup of tea.
“I really didn’t like the thought of spending the rest of
my life doing a job that I didn’t like. I wanted to re-train and
do something that I have a real passion for.”
So, not to do things by halves, Tim decided to move to Cornwall, make a fresh start and learn new skills on the Foundation Degree in Photography and Electronic Imaging at Plymouth College of Art and Design (PCAD). “Being able to explore my creativity and meet new people are some of the best things about returning to study.” During the last year of his degree course there, Tim was selected by PCAD’s Marketing Department to act as their photographer at numerous events which Tim describes as having been a great experience. He also ran a series of evening classes for the college which has opened up the possibilities of teaching others as a career development for him. “I am now studying towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) as I love being able to share my knowledge and help others to learn this great profession.”
Tim is a real enthusiast for learning and has certainly found that taking the chance to make changes in his life through re-training has really paid dividends in terms of personal fulfilment and career openings - “The best thing about education is the varied mix of people and the opportunity to spend time doing something that I love in a great environment.” Like many in the South West, Tim is finding the Foundation Degree route one which suits him well as a way to develop skills useful to work, and, on the way, he has discovered a whole new career path in teaching to combine with his love of photography.
