Building School and Healthcare Trust links
Nigel Cromey-Hawke
The workshop looks at the issues of raising pupils aspirations and expectations in an area of social deprivation and low performance, by building links with a National Healthcare Trust. The Weston Aim Higher partnership has been working with the local Weston Area Healthcare Trust to explore ways they might benefit from each other. Large scale awareness raising activities have been held in the WHAT training Academy first, attended by over 80 students. ‘Business breakfasts’ and ‘Working teas’ have developed bringing NHS professionals in contact with students in a structured environment.
Exploring
E-Mentoring
Sarah Hendrick and Zoe Pither
The Universities of Bristol and the West of England have launched the Brightside Trust Healthcare E-Mentoring scheme. The scheme matches healthcare/medical undergraduates with post-16 students who are interested in pursuing a similar career. This workshop will explore the similarities and differences between face-to-face and e-mentoring, and will also look at the challenges and successes involved in implementing the Brightside scheme. The emphasis will be on sharing good practice and innovative approaches to implementation.
