Why did you decide to apply to attend a Summer School?
-
I hoped it would give me a real insight in to university life so that I could decide whether it was for me or not after receiving quite conflicting views and opinions and never believing I was capable academically.
-
To find out more about the Social Work degree.
-
To find out more about societies and union activities.
-
To meet new people.
-
Because it was free!!
How did your Summer School help you? What did you take from the experience?
I fell in love with the Glenside campus, which was reassuring. It gave me a better understanding of the costs involved and made me realise that I shouldn’t let money stop me as there we’re loans, grants and bursaries to help out. That I did have the academic abilities to get in but that I needed to get the right experiences. Current students gave there view on university and it wasn’t how I had thought. It changed my preconceived ideas and erased stereotypes of university life and being a student. I decided that university was the next step I wanted to take.
Did your Summer School meet your expectations?
Summer school blew all expectations! I was unsure about going and decided that if I didn’t like the first day I wouldn’t go back, but I loved it. I felt welcomed, supported, involved and met some really cool people.
What was the best aspect of the Summer School?
Going to Glenside, where the degree I wanted to study was taught. It is really important for me to like the environment that I work in and Glenside is perfect. I don’t like city life and Glenside feels like your in the countryside! Just like home!
Would you recommend a Summer School to others and why?
Definitely, it gives you a real and true insight to whether university is for you. You get to visit campus, meet staff and current students, find out about areas of interest and get information on finance and student support. It’s an opportunity not to miss. It has played a big role in influencing my decision to do the Social Work degree but also to come to UWE.
How did you choose your place of study?
Mainly because I wanted to stay at home and commute and UWE is my nearest university. But it is more than that, I love the Glenside campus and UWE could offer the course and support I needed/wanted.
What do you like best about your course?
It gets me into the profession I want to be in. I get to go on placements and develop my practice skills. The people on my course are from different backgrounds, different ages and different experiences. All my lectures are fitted into two days. The way in which my modules are assessed are varied and it allows for everybody’s different learning styles. Modules are run well and you are very well informed from the beginning about the content and examination of them.
