Aimhigher Peninsula

The Aimhigher Peninsula Partnership is made up of a wide range of organisations throughout the South West, including schools, colleges, higher education institutions, community groups, government offices, local education authorities, training providers, Connexions and employers. The Partnership’s main aim is to widen participation into higher education (HE).

We believe that, by expanding an individual’s horizons we can help them achieve fairer access to opportunities. Aimhigher is about targeting the people who have no higher education tradition in their families and who are therefore not as likely to consider it an option. We have the following objectives:

* To raise levels of awareness
* To raise aspirations
* To contribute to raising levels of achievement
* To reach key influencers
* To build on existing links and routes into higher education

In the Year of Food and Farming Aimhigher is co-organising an event with Bicton College, Exeter College and the Education Business Partnership on Wednesday 19th March 2008 at Bicton College, East Devon.

The Festival of Farming and Food at Bicton College is an event to inspire 1200 Devon secondary school pupils and 73 of their teachers about locally produced food and farming.  This day will be a journey of discovery from the field to the fork, where school pupils from Devon will be participating in activities and demonstrations to raise awareness of the education, training and career opportunities in the industries that provide us with our food.

Interactive displays and demonstrations from live animals on a working farm moving on during their visit to end result of food on their plate with a free Bicton Burger produced on site.  Each child will also have the chance of planting a potato to mark the International Year of the Potato. Employers and local food producers have been invited by the Tourism Skills Network to have stands in the main hall, with Exeter College providing information about careers in hospitality and catering.
