The University of the West of England awarded honorary degrees to Vanessa Fitzgerald (Aimhigher Peninsula), Suzanne Hume (formerly Aimhigher LIFE) and Mike Farmer (Aimhigher West) at a special ceremony at the HERDA - SW Conference at the Imperial Hotel in Torquay on 13th November 2008. Each of them received the award of Master of Education in recognition of their individual contributions to widening participation in Higher Education in the South West and especially for their work for Aimhigher.
Also seen in these photographs are Rob Cuthbert (Orator for Mike and Suzanne) and Sue Hatt (Orator for Vanessa) along with Professor Steven West ( Vice Chancellor of UWE) and John Rushforth (Deputy Vice Chancellor of UWE). Professor Rob Cuthbert, UWE Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chair of Aimhigher South West, said, “Mike Farmer, Vanessa Fitzgerald and Suzanne Hume have shown outstanding personal commitment to widening participation. Their work has helped thousands of disadvantaged young people in the South West to change their lives through access to higher education.”
