About Aimhigher in the Southwest
What is Aimhigher Southwest?
Aimhigher in the Southwest is a programme of activities to raise awareness, aspirations, and achievement so that more young people (who have the potential to benefit from Higher Education) from under-represented social groups can progress to Higher Education.
Aimhigher in the Southwest was preceded by a similar regional partnership of widening participation actitives called "Widening Participation South West". This region-wide programme of activities subsequently became "Aimhigher: Partnerships for Progression" which in 2004 merged with the Excellence Challenge intiative to become Aimhigher.
In this way from 2000 to 2002 as WPSW and from 2003 to 2008 as Aimhigher these activities in the south west were co-ordinated at a regional level through one overarching partnership. From 2008 to 2011 the Aimhigher Area Partnerships operated independently of regional co-ordination.
